The “Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo” Research Prize, one of the most prestigious for basic research in nephrology in Spain, has been awarded annually since 1987 by the Fundación Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo (https://www.friat.es/) to scientists who have made significant contributions in nephrology at Spanish research institutions or hospitals. This year, the Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo Research Prize in Molecular and Cellular Nephrology will be extended to the European scope and accept applications from scientists of any nationality working in a research institution or hospital of Europe, Turkey or Israel.
The prize will be awarded to a peer-reviewed article published (or accepted for publication) in English between June 1st, 2018 and May 31th, 2019. The amount of the award will be 12,000 €.
The applicant(s) has to be a scientist of any nationality working in a research institution legally base in Europe, Turkey or Israel and has to be the first author (or first authors in case of equal first co-authorship) or last author of the publication. Those who have won the “Íñigo Álvarez de Toledo” Research Prize in previous calls cannot apply (3 calls). The application should include:
- The article
- One-page summary addressing the significance of the work written in Spanish or english.
- A short biosketch (2 pages) of the first author (or first authors in case of equal first co-authorship) or last author of the publication.
- A letter of support from the applicant’s institution (or institutions in case of first a thors of equal first co-authorship working at different institutions)
The documents should be submitted electronically as a single PDF to premiosiat@friat.es. The deadline for applications is June 30th, 2019. A jury formed for at least 5 scientists will evaluate the applications. The selection will be based exclusively on scientific excellence. The decision of the jury cannot be appealed. All applicants will be informed in writing. In case of multiple first authors the prize will be divided in equal parts among the award winners. The award will be presented at the las trimester of 2019. The award winner will be required to give a lecture at this ceremony.
